This compost is completely finished, except for a few leaves here and there. Made on the ground and contains living enzymes, composting microbes, minerals, nutrients, and life. To use chicken manure safely in your garden, it should be composted with a carbon-rich material such as straw. Our heated and cured compost is completely safe for your plants and you. The story behind this compost is this: The hens freely eat green living food and return it to the soil in the form of manure. We use the deep litter method of composting directly under the poultry roosts. When brown (leaves) meets green (chicken manure) in the right proportion, composting happens. The whole process heats up the litter and turns it into a powdery soil-scented material which will safely fertilize your most tender plants. Scratch it in, mix it with soil, or dilute in water and sprinkle it on for a quick foiliar feeding. "Chicken manure fertilizer is very high in nitrogen and also contains a good amount of potassium and phosphorus. The high nitrogen and balanced nutrients is the reason that chicken manure compost is the best kind of manure to use. But, the high nitrogen in the chicken manure is dangerous to plants if the manure has not been properly composted. Raw chicken manure fertilizer can burn and even kill plants if used. Composting chicken manure mellows the nitrogen and makes the manure suitable for the garden. Nasturtium and other cresses are considered interchangeable in the kitchen and are popular in Europe and North America where they are used for spreads (especially those based on cottage cheese) and salads. In Europe, cress leaves are not commonly combined with other fresh herbs but they are compatible with the fines herbes of French cuisine and may be used together with each of them. Leaves or flowers of nasturtium are commonly used to flavour herbal vinegar and cress is also very good for herb sauces. NASTURTIUM BUTTER 4 ounces unsalted butter (1/4 pound - 1 stick), softened 12-18 nasturtium flowers - rinsed and drained - chopped small 3-4 fresh chives (optional) - chopped small 2-4 fresh nasturtium leaves or a few sprigs fresh parsley - chopped small Mix all ingredients until well blended. They can be rolled into logs and wrapped in plastic wrap. Can be frozen. These are fresh eggs which have flaws and are good inside. Originally requested for Stacie's dog, Easy. We feed these to our cats, dogs, and chickens. It may have rained a lot and the eggs were stained by the nest material, or a real odd size pops up. Good way to economize and still get free-ranged, Animal Welfare Approved eggs.

Young hens are just starting to lay. Many folks say that these are the tastiest eggs, and they may well be, as this is the prime of the hen's life: a time when she is healthiest, in her "puberty". The yolk may be a little richer, but I do not know scientific facts on this. Yes, it takes 6 months for a chicken to start laying, and another two months, on the average, to make full-sized eggs. So, now we may begin to see why the cost of eggs continues to rise: We feed the hen for eight months in faith that, in her life-time, she will repay us with her eggs. Each chicken may produce one-half dozen eggs/week, in good conditions and in good health.

Beautiful colors from Robin's Egg blue to Kaki green. Great to boil and use as edible table decor. The Araucana Hen is a rare breed, bred for their ability to lay tinted shells. These hens tend to lay less eggs per hen than other colored and tinted egg layers. The Araucana is a calm, gentle hen, esyt to be around. Their egg-laying tends to slow in the winter, so, the colored shells are even more rare then.

Here is a photo of our eggs as Donna washes them. Aren't they pretty? Wonderful for fried or boiled eggs. These eggs are considered Grade B, still great for cooking. They are fresh as the Grade A eggs. Some may be odd shaped, different sizes, have rough spots on shells, or have a stain which can't be washed off of the shell. If the size isn't important, why not order some for your breakfast?
